Erik van der Giessen is a professor in Materials Science, Physics and Mechanics at the University of Groningen, as well as a co-founder of HTRIC. His other positions: 

• Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW)
• Editor-in-Chief of Modeling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering
• Chair of the University Committee for Academic Practice (UCW)
• Deputy Director of the Bachelor’s degree programme Biomedical Engineering
